James Riley McGee was born 20 Apr 1841 in Denton, Texas. He married Frances Jane Mitcheltree 1862, and had a family of 13 children.
For some reason he left Texas. For many years the children there were told he was dead. We haven't learned when they finally learned of his Arizona families. It is believed he was married to Florence Sidney Lyon in 1887 in New Mexico by LDS Elders, but no documentation has been found. According to the 1900 US Census, Arizona, their first child was born in Mexico before they went to a ranch near Tucson having a total of 11 children, with the last being born in 1904.
In parallel with these events Rozinah (Zinah) Diantha Bingham entered a polygamous relationship with him starting about 1895. They were living on the same ranch. According to family tradition they were dishonest with the 1900 census taker to cover the polygamy and listed her husband as Edward Royal Harris.
According to the 1910 US Census, California, Edward Royal Harris, apparently left with Florence Lyon, married in 1907, and are living in the San Diego area. The two youngest children of James McGee are with their mother, Florence, and listed as step children of Edward R. Harris in the 1920 California census.
Rozinah, with 7 children was still listed as Harris in 1910. According to the 1920 census, a son Louis McGee was born in 1910 and Socrates in 1912. Apparently there never was an earlier marriage since at this time James and Zinah were married 5 Nov 1914. They had Adena in 1915 and Oldetta in 1916. James McGee died in 1917 (almost 75). Rozinah is listed in this 1920 census as McGee. All her children are listed as McGee from then on.
