ALICE LOMAX, daughter of JOSEPH LOMAX and MATILDA LEAH WIGNALL, was born in Darwen, Lancashire, England on 10 December 1861. In England all children were required to learn a trade and MARY ALICE became an expert weaver. When she was 19 years old she joined the L.D.S. Church. She was the only member of her family to join the church. There was much animosity toward the Mormons in England, and both her family and friends turned against her. Because of this persecution MARY decided to leave her home with a group of saints who were going to America. She came to Salt Lake City, Utah and worked in a home for four years to pay for her passage.

Mary Alice Lomax was born in England, was baptized 1883, at 19, by Joseph Leyland Graham. The records indicate that she was on the same ship to America in 1884 with him. She had her endowments at the Endowment House on 18 Sep 1884.


BRIGHAM HEBER BINGHAM took MARY ALICE LOMAX as his 2nd wife on 24 June 1886 in the Logan Temple. Soon after marrying his third wife, REBECCA ANN HUNT 15 December 1886, the opposition to plural marriage became so great that the families were forced to hide from government agents. For this reason Brigham moved to Mexico in 1890 taking his 2nd and 3rd wives. Here land had been purchased by the church for those who had been asked to go there to help colonize. The BINGHAMs first lived in Colonia Diaz, then to Colonia Dublan, to Colonia Pacheco, and to Colonia Garcia. Most of their time spent in Mexico was in Colonia Garcia.

BRIGHAM served in the Bishopric there for five years. He helped to build two reservoirs, survey and build the ditch which brought water into the town, and was the town carpenter and builder. He was one of the best farmers in the country. He was always ready to go to the aid of the sick and to care for those who passed away. MARY ALICE was always on hand to help in this work of love. She helped as midwife and was on call day or night to aid the sick and needy. She had a lovely voice and sang in the ward choir. She was also active in the Relief Society Organization.

In 1912, when the Americans were asked to leave Mexico, BRIGHAM, MARY and three daughters moved to Tucson. Arizona. Here he helped to establish a school and church. He supported the family by raising vegetables which were sold in Tucson. In 1919 they sold their farm and BRIGHAM and MARY moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. There greatest desire was realized here as they began doing ordinance work for the dead in the Salt Lake temple

They moved to Mesa, Arizona, early in 1927 and after the Arizona Temple was dedicated they resumed their ordinance work there. They have more than 20,000 endowment names to their credit. BRIGHAM died 10 February 1935 at the age of 93. He was ailing for only one week, but was never bedfast. His passing was like he said it would be, "Like walking from one room to another." MARY ALICE passed away two years later on 27 May 1937. They both were believers in the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
