Bible of Champion Monroe Nichols

Tempie put her children to bed, left a lamp burning in their room, and went to
help a neighbor to prepare supper for a thrashing crew. The room was lined
with cloth. A terrific wind came up. The house caught fire. It took five men
to hold Tempie out of it as her children were all in ther burning to death 22 June 1900.

I received this in correspondence from Ancestry:
Subject: Wesley W Collier's childrenI am not a family member. I have been researching the tragic deaths of Wesley W Collier and Timpy Nichols Collier's children on June 22, 1900. I believe I have located the burial place of the children. There is no monument, but a distinctive buriel structure in the Thatcher, AZ cemetery. I have a copy of a photograph of the funeral service. My research shows they had a child that died in Arkansas before Wesley died and before Timpy came to Arizona. A young woman named Pershie Posey wrote a story about the five children who lost their lives in the fire. Timpy moved to Globe, AZ, 70 miles west and married a copper miner, Henry Thomas Whitworth. Henry passed in 1930 and was buried in the Thatcher cemetery. Timpy passed in 1942 at age 75 and was buried in the Thatcher cemetery. Any info you may have on the death and burial of Wesley and the child that died before Wesley would be appreciated.

I asked myself if any of this Nichols family remained in Thatcher and if, perhaps, they were related to John E. Nichols, who I grew up with. They are. John's older sister Elda Lou married my cousin Larry Allred. Larry lives just a few houses away from me. I live right across the street from where Clifton and Lucille spent the last years of their life. Every so often I run in to Elda Lou in town.
I remember that John was killed in an accident shortly before I returned from my mission and I knew where he was buried. I went to the Nichols plot this afternoon and took some pictures of the monuments for Champion Monroe Nichols and Sina, his wife. John's grandfather Jonah and his mother and father are buried there also. There is a large monument to WW & Tempie Collier and lists the names of the children. There is also a marker for HT Whitworth, Tempie's second husband. The monuments are of white marble and the inscriptions are weathered and difficult to read. I will take some chalk and get them more readable for a photograph and take some more pictures. I am not convinced that the edifice that local oral history says is where the children are buried as the monument in the Nichols plot is in a square concrete outline about the size of the square coffin that was made for the children. I have a call out to Elda Lou and will interview her.
